Background

Even though Access Grid (AG) is old, slow and out of date, there are still a number of organisations using it.

Like Conference XP, AG is a conference suite supporting group video conferencing and collaboration.

Similar to Conference XP, AG has a venue server where anyone can gather and separate into groups (venues).

Access Grid Clients

To connect to the venue server, download the following packages which can be found on the links provided at the bottom of this page:

  • Python 2.4
  • Python win32 Extensions
  • wxPython 2.6
  • Bonjour
  • Latest release of AG

Install them in an ORDERLY manner following the list.

Access Grid Services

Services can be inserted into AG through add-ons. For a list of available services, check the link at the bottom of this page.

In ViSLAB, we use the Asia Pacific Access Grid Lobby as the AG venue (https://vv3.ap-accessgrid.org:8000/Venues/default).

AGVCR

AGVCR adds video recording capability to an ongoing AG conference. To use AGVCR, download the package at the bottom link. Then install it. To use AGVCR:

  1. Go to the venue you want to record, then click on the menu Venue->Start Application Session-> AGVCR.

  2. At this stage, the AGVCR service will be added to the "Application Session" tree on the right side of the AG client.
  3. Double click Application Session to expand the tree.
  4. Double click AGVCR and the AGVCR application will launch.

Using Access Grid

A quick start guide in using the AG client is located at http://www.accessgrid.org/node/1154.

Troubleshooting

Problem: 1.) AG crash when a high resolution USB camera is inserted and configured.
Solution: Plug out the USB camera first. Then configure WDM in AG to use lower resolution of 3xx X 3xx.
