The end is coming

Filed under: General — romainciemniewski @ 02:06:21 pm

Another sad look at my calendar remind me that my Internship will finish in less than 3 weeks. Actually the official end date is the 15th of July and my plane is the 20th (have to check that^^). And for the moment I'm still working on the tutorial, and I know I'm late !
That means you'll probably see me early in the morning and late in the night (a lot?) more often than usual. I also have to type another report in French and in English about my project.
I can't believe this is already the end, everything was that fast ! But I guess time is going faster in good company !

About the tutorial, I have just finished to comment the Toon Shader example. And still working on other examples, but probably not enough as I should ! I have to say my work is not always as efficient as I wish. Anyway, have a look at the tutorial and don't hesitate to make comments.

Supercopier

Filed under: General — romainciemniewski @ 05:51:35 pm

Did you ever had that very bad experience while you're copying a huge file from a network, only 30sec remaining, the connection failed during a second and you have to start the transfer again ?

Here is a very usefull software, free, sure, that replaces the ugly and inefficient windows default tranfer manager. This paragraph will explain that better than me :

SuperCopier replaces windows explorer file copy and adds many features,Transfer resuming,Copy speed control,Copy speed computation ,Better copy progress display, Copy list editable while copyin , Error log, Copy list saving/loading,...

Here is the link to the english version :
http://sourceforge.net/projects/supercopier/

It's very light and I never had any trouble using it and it's been 3 years since I'm working with!

Try !

Random DLL Virus

Yesterday was a bad day for me in an IT point of view. I've been infected by a virus opening IE web browser with links to random advertising websites for suspicious antivirus, spy, malware protection. After many hours and a huge help from CJ (Thank you !!!) we discovered the virus created random hidden system dll in the Windows/System32 directory. Every dll was linked with main process such as eplorer and ... winlogon :( You think it's impossible to close winlogon because it closes windows as well. CJ Did proved it is possible !!! In fact you have approximatively half a second after closing winlogon to delete the dll...
All the eradication was processed manually. Indeed no antivirus, antispyware, anti malicius were able to clean my computer. We found a free interesting software called Process Explorer. It displays every running process and the dll linked.

I suspect CJ of having been an operator in the Nebuchadnezzar ... never seen someone typing that fast before, my french keyboard is still hot and will remember that forever !

Thanks CJ and also John and Kelvin for their help !

GLSL Basics tutorial : under construction

Filed under: General — romainciemniewski @ 04:34:50 pm

It's been 3 days now since I'm working on the GLSL Basics Tutorial. That means to clarify the code, (try) to write proper english explanations and easy-to-understand. Anyway the wikipage is under construction but you can have a look. Don't hesitate to tell me what you think about that. Any constructive comments are welcome!

At the same time I'm working on the second example of the tutorial, the Lighting per pixel shader.
I'll take some screenshots as soon as it is finished.

First Working GLSL Shader

Filed under: General — romainciemniewski @ 05:24:25 pm

Thursday the 23rd of may, 3.47pm, a scream coming from the desk 3E21 broke the silent working atmosphere of the 3rd floor.
" IT'S WORKINNNNGGG !!!"
In other words, my first Shaders are working. That's one small step for vislab, one giant leap for me !
But what kind of shader ? Toon Shader ! If you have seen the movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit then you already know what I'm talking about. I you haven't, go rent it 'cause this is a good movie :)
Anyway, let's the pictures talk, they are better than words to talk about graphics :

This first picture shows in green the detection of edges

This is the final result, the edges are colored in black and the continuous light intensity has been replaced by discrets light intensity values.

Thanks John and Ren for their help in GLSL, CJ and Kelvin for C++, Balint for his help in general 3D, Shea for the music that helped me not breaking my keyboard, Charlotte for the perfect Coffee Froth and Masa for his explanation of what a Toon Shader must look like.

SDL and openGL exercise ... to be continued

Filed under: General — romainciemniewski @ 04:43:53 pm

The Crane exercise code is on my wikipage, at this adress :

http://wiki.vislab.usyd.edu.au/moinwiki/SDL_and_OpenGL

There are not all comments and I have some trouble with the code form. But you can run the code if you want to try :) . The tutorial will be up to date before the week end.

AtiRenderMonkey

Filed under: General — romainciemniewski @ 05:42:21 pm

It's been so long since I have posted here ! I'm not proud of that.
Balint showed me how to use the AtiRenderMonkey software a few days ago. This is an interesting program that shows you shader effects so that you can see the effect before coding and be sure this is the one you expected. This program also show you vertex and fragment shader part of the code for each effect to give you an idea.

This is an easy-to-use program and the effects are pretty cool !

You can download that there : http://ati.amd.com/developer/rendermonkey/downloads.html

I'm still working on my SDL&OpenGL tutorial. I updated my wiki today but I really have to make it faster.

SDL and OpenGL

Filed under: General — romainciemniewski @ 05:44:11 pm

I'm still working on GLSL code using SDL. I have found an excellent tutorial using both of them. Unfortunately this is a French tutorial.
